Trick or Treat

Happy Halloween Sabre fans! I'm going to totally ignore the fact that last night's game was terrible. It was a trick! A trick I tell you!!!

While surfing the blogs this morning I came across the BEST picture I have seen in a long time. Check out the gem that MJ over @ My Safety is Harvard posted....

For posting the above, MJ is clearly the queen of blogs. Happy Halloween girl! You made my day!

Of course I can't let this spooky day go by without posting some pictures of others in costumes right? Do you think any of the guys will be opening their doors to trick-or-treaters tonight?
If anyone ends up on Ryan's doorstep tonight looking for some candy, (or a soyjoy bar) make sure you give him a hug for me. I'm thinking he had a pretty rough night. It's ok Ryan! Everyone has their crappy games, and boy was last night yours! I still love you though!

If anyone goes trick-or-treating themselves I'm pretty sure it's going to be Andrew Peters. Lucky for the kids I don't think Andrew can walk too far in those heels so there will be plenty of candy left for everyone in his neighborhood!

Moving along to my favorite philanthropist and my favorite Austrian. All that comes to my mind is "Who wears short shorts." :O)

Last but not least we have Pommers. This year Pommers has decided to go as the King of Pominville. Like Andrew, I don't think JP will have too much time to spend trick-or-treating. It's tough work ruling the land of Pominville! Although I think the population has dropped since last season? ;o)

Happy Halloween to all of my fellow sabres bloggers!

Attention you Imposters....

What the hell did you do with the Sabres team we started out with this year?

As Bret Michaels would say "What's a goin' on!"

ugh!

I think it's time certain Sabres get called out!

Mmm Hmm!

L

Happy Birthday Drew!!!

Happy Birthday to you!

Happy Birthday to you!

Happy Birthday dear Drew!

Happy Birthday to you!

Dear Drew,

I hope you have the best 23rd birthday anyone could ever ask for. I'm sure your team mates will shower you with gifts today and be nothing but super duper nice to you! If only I were in Buffalo to come to practice this morning and bring you balloons and a card. Hell I'd probably sing to you too!

After practice I bet Derek Roy will invited you over for some birthday guitar hero! But Drew between you and me, take it easy on the little guy ok? Everyone knows you are clearly a musical genius and if you beat him too many times he'll get very emotional and perhaps cry. There's no crying on your birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DREW!!!!

Sabres Fans Rejoice!!!

GOOSE IS BACK!!! That's right! Paul Gaustad will play his first game of the season tomorrow night against Tampa Bay. Even though he'll be wearing a soft cast, Goose said he's ready for the game. He's not sure what line he'll be playing on but he practiced with Peters and Kaleta. WELCOME BACK GOOSE! I missed you so you ridiculously good looking hunk of man you! I love you and your earth loving ways!

In other news, Adam Mair has been fined $2,500 for his "post-game performance" Monday night. John Vogl of the Buffalo news interviewed Mair about the incident.

When asked what he was trying to communicate to the Senators, he said, "We don't play those guys until January, so I wanted to wish them a Happy Halloween."
"What did they say back?"
"I think they said Merry Christmas."
The Buffalo News' John Vogl asked if Mair was trying to talk to Chris Neil or Jaarko Ruutu?
"It's Halloween for everybody, John." (from http://www.wgr550.com/)

If that's not priceless I don't know what is. Adam you just moved up on my Sabres love scale. Happy Halloween you witty thing you!

R

A little Halloween fun...

Thinking about the Mair/Neil/Ruutu/ incident from the other night....I was moved to create something I'd like to call a Neil O'Lantern....

Only one thing comes to mind when I look at this picture and that's

"Attention Chris Neil - ya big doucher - Halloween is only one day a year...get your f-ing teeth fixed - you look like a jooke (that's right I wrote it phonetically as how a Canadian like our Adam Mair would say it.)"

Boo-ya! LOL

Adam Mair Tell Em!

Anne @ Sabretooth's House brought my attention to this video. Clearly Adam Mair with F*&K you up on OR off the ice!

Ouch that one was painful to watch...

So last night was Buffalo's first regulation loss. No big deal. They can't win every single game right? But whyyyyyyyyyy did it have to be against the Sens?! BOO! I can't stand them!

First of all, what in the crap were the refs thinking when they called the uber-rediculous unsportsmanlike call on Max?! Max got dropped like a sack of potatoes and he gets the penalty?!

Second of all, I love you Patrick Lalime. I really do. However, does anyone else agree with me that Miller should have had his bony body in the crease last night? Ok the Sens had lost their past 4 games....but still! Key word...SENS! Division rivals! It should have been Miller. (Not that that would have helped.)

Third....Attention Andrew Peters...WHAT WERE YOU WAITING FOR?!?! Those punches to Chris Neil's face should have happened way before they did. Nothing pumps the team up more than watching Peters wail on someone.....Ok.......nothing pumps ME up more than watching Peters wail on someone.
Boy do I hate Chris Neil! Look at that mug...*shutter*

Catching up after a little time away....

So, this past Saturday when the Sabres played the Avalanche, I missed the game because I was at a concert and visiting friends for the weekend over in Poughkeepsie.

One game and I'm all out of the loop...

I mean, I didn't even get to decide for myself who deserved the pigeon Phineus - yeah that's what Rachy and her sister decided the pigeon's name was.

At any rate, I do think one thing though....I bet after Ryan shot the puck in his own net he was thinking to himself...."get that f-ing pigeon out of my stall....he's jinxing me!"

LOL....maybe...maybe not....just the vibe I get from him..

Anyway, It's Game 1 against the Sens tonight...

Attn: Kaleta....can you knock some more Sens teeth out for us? With the money these guys have you'd think they'd get veneers....I sure as hell would!

L

Ya know I still love him!

Tonight's game was pretty much the most boring hockey game I've ever watched. The Wild skated circles around our guys. They really showed us! The Sabres better be sitting in their locker room thinking about how the Wild really deserved those 2 points......

What did you just say?

Holy crap on a cracker the Sabres came back to win 4-3!!! AMAZING!!! I'm pretty sure the Wild are having a "wait......what?!" kind of moment right now.

Drew Stafford scored his 2nd consecutive goal tonight while Thomas Vanek remains the team hero. Derek Roy finally crawled out from under his rock to save the day and score in OT.

Buffalo is now 7-0-1 with 13 points which ties us with the Rangers.

PS....

Dear Ryan,

Everyone makes mistakes. Even though you're damn near perfect mind, body and soul it's ok that you put the puck in your net. Anybody could have done it. We all have extra things on our minds that get in the way every now and then. I'm sorry I've been giving Drew so much attention lately. You will always be my #1 Ryan. Everyone still loves your Ryan. Everyone.

Vocab. word of the Day!

The word of the day is Mouse Potato. Actually it's two words....but whatever. Mouse Potato.

The word of the day is brought to you by the children's television workshop and Drew Stafford. After watching his adorable post-game interview I thought to myself, "what the hell is a mouse potato?!" Google took me to Merriam-Webster's online dictionary.

Main Entry: mouse potato
Function: noun
Etymology: after couch potato
Date: 1993
slang : a person who spends a great deal of time using a computer

Is this really a common term? I thought Drew just made up a random word for lack of better things to spontaneously say to the press? Clearly I will try to work "mouse potato" into my everyday vocabulary.

The Pigeon has a new home. A good home. A home with a nice view and all the Enlyten Sportstrips he could ever want. Has anyone noticed that this pigeon is pretty damn popular with the media? Everyone asks about the pigeon and all he does is sit in the locker and do nothing. It's like the Paris Hilton of the taxidermy world.

My vote for Sabre Pigeon goes to....

DREW STAFFORD!

I've been sitting quietly while everyone trash talked my drew. Sitting silent listening to all the hideous comments like "get him off the Vanek and Roy line!" TONIGHT WAS YOUR NIGHT DREW! What a sick goal to pull the team back into the game! Hell yeah Staffy! Hell yeah! I knew your time would come!

With all my Drew loving I must NOT forget to mention what a stellar game Ryan Miller had! He totally robbed the Bruins blind on more than one occasion! There's nothing I love more than seeing Ryan so pumped after winning a shootout!5-0-1! Cue the win song! I came to get down! I came to get down! So get out your seat and jump around!

Oh! And this just in.....Thomas Vanek is still a superstar! Way to fake out Fernandez TV!

R

An old Cartoon from The Buffalo News you might enjoy....

I think the cartoon should be editted to show TC in a full body cast....Mummified if you will...

As far as Campbell is concerned in the cartoon....I think I'd like to draw a cartoon of me hugging him in a Sabres jersey. LOL

L

Tim Connolly recovering....again

Tim Connolly spoke to the media after the morning skate @ HSBC Arena about his most recent injury. (Insert rolling eyes here.) He hit the ice for the first time after receiving 2 hairline fractures in his back to "get used to the ice and get his hands moving." Kevin Sylvester asked if his pain had eased up at all and Tim had one of those "ehhhhhh" responses. Even if Timmy rolled out on the ice in a wheelchair I'm pretty sure the Sabres would give him a raise and build a monument in his honor. Now don't get me wrong, I wish him all the best for his career....but come on! How much longer is this going to go on?

On another note....IT'S GAME NIGHT IN BUFFALO! I wish I would be making my way down Perry St. into the arena tonight! I'll be teaching dance class and probably won't be able to tune in until the middle of the 2nd period. *sigh*

Boston won their game last night against the Pens 2-1 in SO. Sabres you've had 2 days off to rest up! Earn that pigeon boys!

One more interesting fact.....Did you know this is the first time since 1975 that the Sabres and the Bills have both started their season 4-0? Lets Go Buffalo!

R

something to look forward to...

So, not gonna lie...yesterday was a shitty day! I too could've went for some Breakaway Berrier.

Attention Ryan....People in Watertown like your delicious chocolately raspberryie ice creamy goodness.....

The last time I had some of it, I actually bought it at Tops on Transit...then drove 3 hours home and put it in the freezer...the next day when I went to have some it...it was still chocolately raspberryie ice creamy and good!

About Ryan's blog...I freaking sat at my laptop at home reading it bawling my eyes out the other night! Again I say, does it get any better than the Millers? Seriously!

The only other person on the team that might come close is our Goose who loves being Green, helping kids get more active with the "Shuffle - or walk to buffalo"

http://sabres.nhl.tv/team/console?type=fvod&id=8860

Or what about getting kids to read more, going to events that will brighten the days of kids with cancer.....and who could forget last March when he did the Sabres Night for the WNY Women's Fund....

Wow...that's one caring Goose we got here!

As far as something to look forward to....I'm pretty much on autopilot here at work until I can get home after 7 to enjoy the game!

Let's Gooooo Buffalo!

Baby it's cold outside!

Holy crap is it cold outside! The news is calling for snow this week. It's October for crying out loud! Good thing I just bought an amazing new pair of teal boots! It's funny that it's cold because all day I've wanted one thing and one thing only....

You can't even buy Breakaway Berrier here! Damn you Ryan for making such a tasty treat....and being so adorable while doing so!

While I'm on the subject of the love of my life, (Ryan...not the ice cream) I just want to comment on his most recent blog over at http://www.millertime30.com/. Ryan talks about how it's been just over a year since the passing of his cousin Matt and talks about his organization "The Steadfast Foundation." In his entry he talks about how the reality of cancer not only "slaps you in the face, but runs you over" and how Matt was his inspiration to start the foundation. (http://www.thesteadfastfoundation.com/) Head on over and read his words. Get inspired. Help make a difference! I myself have donated to steadfast and can't wait to attend "Catwalk for Charity III." Last year was a blast!

At our dance studio I started a Relay for Life team. Relay is the main fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. During the 5 years our team has participated we have raised over $25,000 for cancer research. October is breast cancer awareness month. If you have never gotten involved before now is a great time to start! Start a relay time! To learn more about Relay for Life in your community go to http://www.cancer.org/.

It had to happen sometime right?

Why is it always the Thrashers that have to end our streak? Rewind back and remember that Atlanta also put a stop to our 10-0 season of glory! Oh well...can't win every game. The Sabres did leave with 1 point which puts us up to 9 points out of a possible 10. Not too shabby! Great goal by Pommers to tie the game with 3:08 left in the 3rd period, and of course Thomas Vanek adding another gold star to his achievement chart on his refrigerator!

Now lets talk shootout.....I would just like to say WTF SABRES.COM?!? Reading the recap of the game I see this......

"Kovalchuk, Atlanta's second shooter in the tiebreaker, beat Patrick Lalime for the first goal. Buffalo tied it with its second skater, Ales Kotalik, who scored on Lehtonen.
Kozlov gave the Thrashers the lead, and they finished off the victory when Buffalo leading scorer Thomas Vanek shot wide."

Now I KNOW the amaretto sour I was drinking didn't cloud my vision THAT bad! Was it not Mr. Drew Stafford that netted the puck for the Sabres? Kotalik shot first and missed. Drew Scored. Thomath missed. Where's the Stafford love I ask you? Do the webmasters @ Sabres.com not love him as much as I do? They should hang their heads in shame. In a few days I'm pretty sure the Sabres will call and ask me to take over as webmaster.

1. Best Eyes goes to:

2. Best Hair goes to:
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah....he's not on the current team...I don't care! He will forever be a Sabre in my heart and therefore, will always have the best hair...just as long as he doesn't shave his head like that one time when Goose did......(cringe)
3. Best Smile goes to:

4. Tall and Handsome = None other than our Goose

5. Short and Sweet = Lil' Roy of course...I'm a girl and he's about my height...I'm 5 ft. 6. - There's no way he's 5 ft. 9!

10. Best All Around - None other than Jesus!

Millers says Get rid of those Rabbit Ears!

Has anyone seen the new commercial about switching to digital cable before Feb. '09 with all the NHLers in it? I've only see it once on the NHL network. It's pretty amusing...I believe it's a Staal brother that shines on the small screen saying ".org? I've never even heard of that." After endless youtube and google searching I can't find this commercial anywhere and clearly most of my day will be spent trying to catch it again just for a giggle.

Oh Hot Damn...This is My Mair Jam......

Rachy saying "hot damn" about Thomas Vanek's - let's just say return from a year of being lost - made me think of my favorite current hit that needs to be added to the arena hits.....

It goes a little something like this...

"Oh Hot Damn, this is my Jam....keep me partying til the AM...ya'll don't understand - but it makes me wanna throw my arms around Mair - Ma-Mair - Mair - Ma-Mair."

That is all.....(clearly I am a dork I know.....)

Suck it Drury!

What happened to your perfect record Mr. Drury? Oh that's right...the Sabres shattered it before your eyes! I must say that I highly enjoyed this sweet victory. There are SO many obnoxious Rangers fans around here that it just makes it THAT much more sweeter to see them go down!

Lets discuss Thomas Vanek. This guy is on fire! 5 goals in 3 games! Hot damn! The goal off the assist from Roy was fan-freakin-tastic! You crash that net Thomath! I love you and your enourmous teeth and slight lisp!

Moving right along to Clarke MacArthur. I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT GRIZ!!! Not only did you step up into center but you have a goal in 2 games! Hell yeah! I am loving the PMP line...the Pimp line. LoL I'm pretty sure Pommers would be excited to know that I call his line the pimps....chain blinging kanye loving Pommers. Paielle has been oustanding so far as well. Lock him up Darcy!!!

Obviously I can't lay my head down on my pillows without mentioning Ryan Miller. Holy moly what a goalie! Great stops my MillZ tonight. Attention Ryan....in case you didn't know...I pretty much love you.

In closing, Griz gets a gold star for stepping up, Ryan is still beautiful, the Rangers didn't get to set their record and Thomas Vanek is better than you. All is right with world.

*~* Congratulations Lindy on win #400 *~*

Injury - sminjury....

Ok...So to further look at Rachy's topic...This is my observation....

Sure we've got Yo-Yo with the finger surgery, Goose with the thumb, a knee, a wrist, a this, a that here on the team...

And then we've got Connolly....

If there was a f-ing checklist of injuries, he might as well go ahead and check 'em all....

Not gonna lie, I have no sympathy for the guy anymore....

The ship has passed.....

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

What's with the fingers?!

Another finger injury? Really?
Darcy Regier announced today that Jochen Hecht underwent surgery to repair a finger injury and will be out a couple weeks. I have to admit that when yoyo's upper body injury was announced during Monday's game of glory....I never really expected a finger injury. Upper body injury sounds so serious...and a finger is just well...a finger. None the less I wish you a speedy recovery Jochen! I guess he just wanted to be like Goose? :O)
Now you may be asking yourself, "Rachael! Who in the world is going to step up and skate with Pommers and Paille?!" Why Clarke MacArthur of course! I'm actually glad to see Lindy give him a shot on this line. Way to go Griz! You show Chris Drury you're the boss!

On a totally different note....In my intro post I mentioned that I liked photography. I thought I'd go through and post some of my favorites from over the years. Enjoy!

R

That's Rachael with an "A"

Hey all! I'm Rachael....the co-pilot for "Meet me @ Chef's." Some of you might be thinking "why is this blog called Meet me @ Chefs?" Chefs is a restaurant in Buffalo....clearly the best italian food you will ever put in your mouth. Do we own Chefs? No. Do we work at Chefs? That's a big no again. (Hell I'm lucky I can make kraft mac and cheese!) Do we enjoy a good meal after taking in a hockey practice....yes. Yes we do.

Anywho....a little bit of info on me. I'm a full time dance teacher. I teach all ages and also run a competitive dance company. I adore music and concerts and love to travel. I'm obsessed with pop culture. If you need member for your "world series of pop culture" team I'm your girl! Photography is a passion of mine....and I love shooting the Sabres! I'll be posting pics from time to time.

Now for the hockey stuff.....

I was born in Buffalo so it was only natural to grow up a Sabres fan. No goal 99 damnit! Michael Peca was my first hockey love and not gonna lie...I still have a little crush. 10 games for grabbing a ref's arm?! Lame.

Most of my Sabre love is now devoted to Ryan Miller.

Ah yes....Ryan. Who knew such an enormous heart could beat in such a skinny little body? I admire this guy so much for all he does for the community...not to mention he is one hell of a goalie!

I must say I'm also quite a fan of Drew Stafford because well....we are ALL Fabian!

New Song for the Arena....

Ok...because I love music and my ultimate career would be to be sitting at that sound board in HSBC arena....

I will often bring up songs that should be added to the mix during stoppages of play, etc....you get the point...

Next time I go to that arena damnit, I wanna hear the song that goes "whoop whoop." by an artist called Enur? Ya know that one? Maybe not?

Perhaps they could introduce a video of bloopers during commercial breaks - like trips, etc....funny facial expressions....ya know our team is notorious for these...just look at Thomas and his enormous teeth over there....

"Whoop Whoop!"

L

The Beginning...a Very good Place to Start....

In the beginning, on the first day of the year several years ago, I was introduced to the best game on earth.....NHL hockey!

I'm Lucinda - your host - well for this post anyway....

By day, I write and produce radio commercials....

By night, I teach dance, go concerting, and of course - follow hockey....all kinds of it....college right up to the NHL.....

yeah yeah yeah, you're thinking...whatev...

Here's where it gets interesting....

Some things you must know about me first off.....

I love Brian Campbell....there....we got that right out there first thing. Love him! The day he was traded from the Sabres, I cried four times!

In this picture to your left, you can see him with his parents....and clearly....I am not in this picture....bummer I know....

Anyway, you will be hearing lots about Campbell from me....

Secondly, My favorite Sabre as a person would be Andrew Peters....Why you ask? Because, he's beautiful! Period!

Over the course of our blog's life, you will also get to know about our Top 5 Sabres! Of course Rachy and I both disagree about the order they should be in, but we can both agree that these five are THEE five!

The Fab Five if you will....

Anyway,

Glad we could break the ice....

Who's next? Rachy?
